Allegri alternative to Conte at Inter Milan?

Following Antonio Conte’s furious tirade against ‘weak’ Inter for ‘giving zero protection’ to players or coach, Sport Mediaset report Max Allegri is next in line.

The Nerazzurri finished second in his debut Serie A season, just one point shy of Scudetto winners Juventus.

However, Conte was raging in last night’s post-match interviews, complaining the club gave “zero protection” to him or his players from criticism.

La Repubblica and La Gazzetta dello Sport both reported today that while a dismissal is unlikely, Conte could well quit this summer if he isn’t given more power behind the scenes.

According to Sport Mediaset, if crisis talks do not go well, then the primary option to replace Conte would be the man who followed him when he suddenly quit Juventus in 2014 – Allegri.

Former Juve director Beppe Marotta made that decision at the time and would go towards Allegri again, who is now a free agent after taking a year out following his Bianconeri dismissal.

Allegri won five consecutive Serie A titles with Juventus after Conte’s three, and reached the Champions League Final twice.

Inter wouldn’t be the only side interested, as Allegri was also linked with Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Manchester United.Football-Italia
