Chris Smalling reportedly has little desire to remain at Manchester United for the upcoming campaign.

The centre-back has recently returned to Old Trafford after a loan period with Roma, where he made a total of 37 appearances in all competitions.

Given his impact at the Stadio Olimpico, United have allegedly decided to place a £20m price tag on the England international, significantly higher than Roma are willing to pay.

However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 30-year-old is said to be pushing hard to secure a reunion with the Italian outfit.

The report suggests that Roma chief executive Guido Fienga has travelled to England in a bid to hold positive discussions with United officials.

While Smalling effectively has three years left on his contract, he would likely find himself as fourth choice should he remain in the North-West for the next 10 months.
