Barcelona confirmed the relegation of local rivals Espanyol as Luis Suarez's second-half goal proved decisive and sent the visitors to the second tier for the first time in 27 years.
The first half concluded with Barcelona failing to register a shot on target, the first time the Catalan side had done so this season.
Then suddenly the match came alive when Ansu Fati was sent off sent off for a dangerous studs-up tackle on Fernando Calero. Just when Espanyol started to fancy their chances a man up, they too were reduced to ten as Pol Lozano saw red for a dangerous tackle on Gerard Pique.

Barcelona then scored the opener through Luis Suarez after wonderful interchanging play between Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi. That goal proved to be decisive and Espanyol's relegation has been confirmed.
