Napoli defeated Roma 2-0 in their weekend (Sunday 21 March) top flight clash and Mertens netted both goals within the first 45 minutes.

The first goal was a free-kick while the second was a header after a well-worked move created by Lorenzo Insigne and Matteo Politano.

Mertens, 33, celebrated his achievement on twitter: “Very proud of this new milestone: First Belgian player to reach 100 goals in Serie A. Hurry up Romelu Lukaku.”

Across all competitions, Dries Mertens has scored 133 goals in 349 appearances with SSC Napoli.
