Nigeria's Super Eagles |
Augustin Senghor, President of the Senegalese Football Federation, has confirmed that the Lions of Teranga will slog it out with Nigeria's Super Eagles, who are three-time champions of AFCON, in an
international friendly ahead of the 2019 Continental football tournament in Egypt.
Gernot Rohr, Head Coach of Nigeria, revealed last Friday after the draw for the competition that his side will play two pre-tournament friendlies against Ghana and Senegal.
According to Rohr, “We have two friendlies against Ghana and Senegal.
“Ghana in Nigeria and Senegal probably one week before the tournament here in Egypt.”
“It would be a great showpiece of football, but it is important for our players to avoid injuries as the season heads towards the end.”
Senghor and president of Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Melvin Pinnick met after the draw to discuss modalities concerning the friendly, Afrik-foot.com says.
Head Coaches of Nigeria, Gernot Rohr and Senegal, Aliou Cisse, are expected to discuss later on the venue of the game and other details.
The Super Eagles are drawn in Group B alongside first-timers Burundi, Madagascar and Guinea while the Teranga Lions are drawn in Group C with Algeria, Kenya and Amuneke's Tanzania.
