2019 AFCON: Great! Burundi qualify for tournament for first time, Aubameyang's Gabon out

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's Gabon crashed out after 1 - 1 draw against Burundi - Goal

Burundi will feature at the 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations this summer in Egypt after a 1 - 1 home draw against Gabon at the Prince Louis Rwagasore Stadium, Bujumbura on Saturday.


This is Burundi's first ever appearance at the continental football tournament.

The hosts needed just a draw to secure a spot at the tournament, opened scoring through Cedric Amissi 14 minutes from time.

Gabon, who paraded Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the entire duration of the game got a late lifeline when Omar Ngando scored an own goal but they were unable to find the winner.

Burundi finished second in Group C with ten points while Gabon finished third with eight points.

Mali finished as Group C toppers with 14 points, South Sudan finished the group fourth with no point (zero).

Burundi join Madagascar as the other country that will make their first AFCON appearance at Egypt 2019.
