Ajax 2 - 3 Tottenham: Oliseh disappointed with former club

Sunday Oliseh

Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh, is disappointed with the manner his former club, Ajax Amsterdam crashed out in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League after a dramatic second leg defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Eredivisie giants looked certain to reach the final after taking a 2-0 lead in Amsterdam on Wednesday to stretch their aggregate advantage to 3-0.

But Lucas Moura’s second-half hat-trick, including a 96th-minute winner, earned Spurs a 3-2 win.

It’s Spurs’ first Champions League final feat.

The feat saw Spurs become the first team to come from two goals behind, to win in a Champions League semi-final single leg match since Manchester United’s feat in 1999 against Juventus.

Oliseh, while ruing his former club’s loss, hails Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino’s tactical switch in the second half which swayed victory in his side’s favour.

“Sad for my dear Ajax, what a horrible way to lose a champion’s league semi-final,” Oliseh tweeted via his official Twitter handle.

“Credit to Pochettino’s Tottenham for the fighting spirit and above all, the second half tactical change that defeated Ajax. what a superb Year of football.”

Tottenham will face Liverpool in an all English club final at the Wanda Estadio Metropolitano, Madrid, Spain on June 1.
