Cagliari have formally signed Sportium to create the final design of their new Stadium, which will take two years to construct.

The Sardinians had their initial Guide Plan to reconstruct the Stadio Sant'Elia approved in November, 2019, after agreeing to remove all commercial activities from the site.

This forced them to rewrite the economic plan for the new arena, but Sportium have now been tasked with creating the final architectural design.

A statement said the new stadium will become "the pride of the whole island" and "a fortress that will intimidate opponents who come from overseas."

The process began in 2015 with the first feasibility study and there will be a public tender for the assignment of the concession for construction of the project in June 2021.

Once building work actually begins, "the duration of the work is estimated to take two years."
