Newcastle United takeover given green light

A Saudi Arabia-based consortium has allegedly been given the green light to complete a takeover of Newcastle United.

In March, reports emerged that the group,
led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, were in talks to buy the Magpies off long-time owner Mike Ashley.

However, given the much-publicised opposition, it has put the proposed deal in doubt, seemingly resulting in Roma becoming another option for the consortium.

According to The Sun, however, negotiations will soon reach a positive conclusion, with an official announcement scheduled for the start of June.

While funds are still to be transferred between the two parties, the report says that the bid has now passed the league's fit and proper persons' test.

Should a deal be confirmed, Newcastle are expected to have significant funds to spend during the next transfer window.
