Due to safety fears over fans gathering outside the Stadium, the match between Premier League's top two teams could have been played at a neutral ground.
The permission has been given to Manchester City to host toppers Liverpool in their Premier League match on Thursday 2 July at Etihad Stadium.
A Manchester City Council safety advisory group (SAG) agreed it could be played at City's home ground.
If Manchester City fails to defeat Chelsea on Thursday 25 June, then Liverpool will win the title.
