Republic of Ireland manager Vera Pauw says her side face a tough challenge when they meet Germany in a Women's European Championship qualifier in September.

The Republic sit top of Group I with Germany a point behind having played one game fewer, so the result of their 19 September meeting will determine who takes charge of the group.

Having won four of their opening five matches, the Republic are in a strong position with three games remaining, two of which are against Germany.

"Germany at this moment are the best team in the world," said Pauw, who signed a new deal on Thursday that will see her remain as the Republic manager should they qualify for the finals in 2022.

"They were in a dip recently, they had a transition period but [German manager] Martina Voss has this team right on track again."
