"I dont understand why there are so many fears", let fans in - Virologist

An Italian virologist points out if audiences are allowed in open-air concerts or theatres, 'there's no reason why football fans shouldn't be treated the same way'.

While group training should be able to resume from Monday - if the medical protocol can be agreed - the issue of seeing supporters in the stands is a very long way off clarification.

"I don't understand why there are so many fears on reopening the gates of football and none when authorising an open-air concert," Virologist Maria Rita Gismondo told Corriere dello Sport.

"The rules to ensure safety, like social distancing, obligatory mask, are the same in a stadium as when attending an opera. Infact, the rules would be easier to apply in a stadium than a theater.

"I would say that it'd be better to postpone the openings, but if the theatre is open, then there's no reason why football fans shouldn't be treated the same way."
