For his campaign against Child poverty, Manchester United English forward Marcus Rashford will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Manchester.

He will be the youngest person to receive the award from the Institution and it is the highest honour the University can bestow.

22-year old Rashford campaigned for the government to allow almost 1.3million children to claim free school meal vouchers in the summer holidays in England.

It was "a proud day for myself and my family", the England forward said.

Previously, Red Devils Legends Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Charlton have received the award from the University.

"When you look at the great names that have been awarded this doctorate in the past, it's humbling," Rashford said.

"We still have a long way to go in the fight to combat child poverty in this country but receiving recognition from your city means we are heading in the right direction and that means a lot."

"A great person and he cares about others so much more than himself," Man United Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said about the forward.

The Norwegian further said: "Very proud of him and hopefully [he will] keep his personality for the rest of his life."
