Gernot Rohr 'is not world-class, he cannot lead Nigeria to Eldorado' - Odegbami

Nigerians in their huge numbers want Super Eagles German Manager Gernot Rohr relieved of his managerial responsibilities and right now former Nigeria superstars have come out to bare their minds on what should become of Rohr following Nigeria's poor results during the international break.

The Super Eagles flopped in their friendlies in Austria against The Desert Warriors of Algeria and the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.

Gernot Rohr's men fell by a lone goal to Algeria and drew 1-1 against Tunisia in their international friendlies.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Amaju Pinnick described the game against Algeria as "not a great game".

The Super Eagles drew their two 2022 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sierra Leone. The first encounter at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium finished 4-4 while the second encounter inside the National Stadium Freetown, Sierra Leone ended without a goal.

Even the Leone Stars were that tough for the Super Eagles to bend...hmm!

Several sources say that current Nigeria players are fast losing confidence in Rohr with defender Ola Aina expressing disgust at being sidelined in Nigeria's 2022 Afcon first leg qualifier against Sierra Leone which ended 4-4.

A member of the 1980 Afcon-winning team, Segun Odegbami, has expressed distrust in Gernot Rohr saying the German 'cannot lead Nigeria to Eldorado' because he is not 'world-class'.

Odegbami said: “I have expressed my opinion about Rohr severally.

“He may be a good coach but what are his credentials. My believe is that anyone who will coach the Eagles must make the team a World-class team capable of winning the World Cup.

“Rohr cannot deliver that. He is not the world-class coach we are loking for. We have seen him work for four years and what we saw in two critical moments in Russia and Egypt, he convinced me that he is not the one to lead Nigeria to Eldorado.”

Special Assistant on Sports to President Buhari, Daniel Amokachi, who also clinched the Afcon in 1994 has joined in expressing his sadness over the current state of the Super Eagles following their disappointing results against their West African neighbours, the Leone Stars.

“Football these days, there is no patience. It’s the result that matters.

“The person (Rohr) has been in charge of the team for five years but you cannot write anything about those years he has been in charge.

“Is he the right person to take Nigeria in the right direction? I don’t think so.

“We have seen some decision taken by him which a right coach won’t. We cannot have a team where all of the players come from three agents and one of those agents represent the coach. That shows a lot of shady deals. In the last five years he has not shown has the right man for the job.”

Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni did not hesitate to bare it all describing Gernot Rohr as 'one of the worst coach in Super Eagles' history'.

The Yak as he is fondly called went further to say that some players don't qualify to be in the Nigeria National Team.
