Premier League: Southampton 2-3 Man United - Red Devils 'celebrating like they won the Premier League' - Saints Boss Hasenhuttl

Video ⬇ Ralph Hasenhuttl believes his Southampton  players should take Manchester United's overzealous celebrations as a compliment following their last-gasp defeat.

Southampton got off to the perfect start at St Mary's on Sunday, with Jan Bednarek and James Ward-Prowse putting the hosts 2-0 ahead with just 33 minutes on the clock.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side produced an inspiring comeback in the second half, with Bruno Fernandes netting before super-sub Edinson Cavani struck twice - including an injury-time effort - to wrap up the three points.

It was a tough one to take for Hasenhuttl and his Southampton players, who still sit fifth in the Premier League despite their defeat.

And after the final whistle, Hasenhuttl took a swipe at United for their over-the-top celebrations at St Mary's.

Hasenhuttl said: 'You can hear them celebrating in their dressing room. You know what you have done today and how tough an opponent you have been because they were celebrating like they had won the Premier League.

'That was the thing for me because it is definitely a statement when they are celebrating like they were because it was tough.

'They had to play the best they can to win against us and we can be proud of how we played.

'We had some fantastic moments - the best I think we can against such sides. I am very happy about what we can play today.

'For 2-2, that is okay for us, but then we conceded a third goal. We played as good as we can today.

'We put everything in that is possible against such teams but we saw a fantastic side.'
