Villarreal FC: 'We need Chukwueze to make the difference but he is doing it to a lesser extent' - Coach Unai Emery

Villarreal Spanish Head Coach Unai Emery has charged Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze to improve his game so as to satisfy his massive potential for the club.

The Nigeria international has performed way below expectation for Villarreal this season and according to Marca, Emery expects more from the player.

Chukwueze has recorded just one goal and two assists for the Spanish La Liga club and has found it hard to maintain a constant start for Emery's side.

The 49-year old Manager said: “We need the experience that some players accumulate to translate into improvement.

“We need Samu to settle after two years of irregularity in the first team. We need him to make the difference and this year he’s doing it to a lesser extent than before.”

He further told Marca: “I opted for him at Anoeta against Real Sociedad with the idea that he’d win us the game, but it wasn’t to be. We’ll continue to work with him on it.”

“We set the level high because there are many players with high ability, and I want to help the younger players find that level of performance,”

The Yellow Submarine will slug it out in their next encounter with FK Qarabag on Thursday 10 in the Uefa Europa League. It with be both teams' last Group Stage game of the tournament.
