32-year old Ozil has not fielded for the Gunners since March and his £350,000-a-week deal was set to expire at the end of the current season.
Both parties, however, have all-but agreed to tear up the final months of his contract, the PA News Agency understands.
In the event that the final few details are straightened properly, Ozil had been expected to exit the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window and would be able to join another club as a free agent.

US Major League Soccer club DC United have shown serious interest in the Germany international, however, Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce are now believed to be ahead in the race for Ozil's signature.
Mesut Ozil opens up on the countries he "want to play football" before retirement ⬇
I definitely will. There are two countries I want to play football in before I retire: Turkey 🇹🇷 and USA 🇺🇸. If I went to Turkey, I could only go to Fenerbahce. https://t.co/TL68kUL62M
