AFCON 2019: Use Seychelles game to test fresh legs - Yobo to Rohr

Former Nigeria International and Super Eagles Captain Joseph Yobo

Former Nigeria captain Joseph Yobo has advised Head Coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr to use the 2019 AFCON qualifier against Seychelles this weekend in Asaba to test fresh legs in the National Team.

The ex Nigeria defender has expressed great pleasure that the Super Eagles have already qualified for the continental tournament with a match to spare, suggested that there is nothing to stake in the Seychelles encounter.

He further added that, the clash is the best opportunity younger players can have to show what they can do.

At the Monday Night Football, when the former Everton defender was asked to put hinself in the shoes of Coach Rohr, he said:
“If I were to be in his position or advise him I would say, use the match to test fresh legs.  We have qualified with a game to spare and I must congratulate the team for achieving that feat. So give younger players an opportunity to express themselves because after now there will be no more time.”

In the course of his football career, Yobo featured 387 times for six different clubs as well as made 101 appearances for the Nigeria National Team.

Nigeria, who have already made it to 2019 AFCON are Group E toppers with 10 points from 5 games.

The Bafana Bafana of South Africa are second in the group with 9 points, and are currently under pressure because they must win against Libya who are third with 7 points.

Whoever wins between South Africa and Libya takes the second spot in the group and qualifies alongside Nigeria for the 2019 AFCON.
