Gernot Rohr, Nigeria Super Eagles Head Coach has said that the current Super Eagles lack quality players in the likes of Austin Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo and Vincent Enyeama.
Rohr said this in a chat with SportingLife at the Agege Stadium where he watched the NPFL matchday 19 encounter between MFM and Bendel Insurance which ended 2-0 in favor of the home side.
Reacting to submissions by some Nigerians that his boys are favorites going into the 2019 African Cup of Nations, considering the abundance of talents at his disposal, the German tactician said, “Stay humble please. Which of our players is playing in a big team? Which one is playing in UEFA Champions League?
"We don’t have big players like we used to have before. Where is Okocha, where is Kanu, where is Enyeama and others. We know that we have young team with good spirit but we don’t have the stars like we have before. I hope with time that will come back.
“Fortunately, we have Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze who are playing Europa League and other young players.
“So I hope that with this our strength, we can go far in AFCON,” Rohr told SportingLife.
