Nigeria vs Egypt: 14 Home-based Pharaohs train for Super Eagles in Alexandria

The Pharaohs of Egypt have opened training for the international friendly against the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on March 26.


The Pharaohs gathered in Alexandria on Sunday for the game against the Super Eagles however, they have to slog it out with Niger in their last 2019 AFCON qualifier before the friendly in Asaba.

Egypt opened training without their top player Mohammed Salad who was busy with the Sunday Barclays English Premier League tie against Fulham FC in London, which the Reds won by 2-1.

In a statement, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) reported on its official Facebook page that: “Coach Javier Aguirre kicked off the camp with a meeting with the players, stressing full concentration and doing one’s best effort during the coming 10 days.”

The statement further reported that: “The first training session of the camp will start later Sunday with the presence of 14 players (the local-based ones).”

Egypt, who are second in the group, have already made it to the continental football tournament with 12 points and one match to spare, Tunisia who are the group toppers also have 12 points however, more goals than the Pharaohs.

Egypt was granted the rights to host the 2019 edition of AFCON after Cameroon was stripped of the rights in December.

Nigeria have also booked a spot at the tournament as they top their group with 10 points with one game to go against Seychelles.
