Middlesbrough FC: Despite five defeats in a row, 'keep fighting' - 'Uncle' Mikel encourages teammates

Following the team’s poor run of results in recent weeks, Nigerian midfielder, "Uncle", as nicknamed by teammate Assombalonga, John Obi Mikel has encouraged his Middlesbrough teammates not to give up.


Championship side, Middlesbrough, have suffered five defeats in a row, and they are set to slog it out with Swansea today (Saturday, 6 April) in a championship encounter.

However, the Nigerian international seems unbothered because he is of the belief that Boro can still bounce back.

Mikel said, “It’s bad but it’s not the end of the world, there are more games to play.”

“And things can change very quickly in this league. If you win one game and a rival team draws you are right back in it. We know that.

“We have to keep fighting, we have to keep playing and it is still there for us. We all believe that,” he told the club’s website.

Mikel has urged fans to stand by the team in this difficult time and has equally charged players to play as one.

"Fans want us to play good football, attacking football and we have tried to do that the last few games.

"It is true that goals have not come, but we have played well and created chances. We have to stick together as a team which is what we have done."

“And hopefully the fans will stick with us too."
