Racing Club President Victor Blanco maintains Lautaro Martinez ‘is close to a move to Barcelona,’ good news considering he asked Inter for a cut of the profits.
There is a release clause worth €111m in his contract, but the clubs are negotiating a transfer involving cash plus players in exchange.
“I get the feeling that Lautaro Martinez is close to a move to Barcelona, even if I haven’t talked to him recently,” Racing Club President Blanco told Radio La Plata.
“We will have a cut of the transfer, as fortunately we thought long-term when selling to Inter, even if the €2m to remove that clause was very tempting at the time.
“We decided to gamble on his future, without knowing if and when that was going to happen.”
Inter purchased Lautaro Martinez from Racing for €25m in the summer of 2018 and he has proved to be a genuine bargain, scoring 16 goals with four assists in 31 games this season.
“At the time, Lautaro’s sale was the most expensive in Argentinean football and if the move to Barcelona were to go through with the figures that have been mentioned, then that would only confirm it for us.”
