Manchester United travelled to Crystal Palace, conquered them and carted away all three points to mount more pressure on Chelsea and Leicester City.

The Red Devils have moved closer to qualifying for next season's Champions League after defeating The Eagles by 2 goals to nil right inside the Selhurst Park on Thursday.

English forward Marcus Rashford opened scoring for the visitors in the 45th minute and French forward Anthony Martial sealed it up in the 78th minute to earn Man United a vital win.

With this victory, Manchester United are on the fifth spot with 62 points same as fourth-placed Leicester City who defeated Sheffield United 2 - 0 earlier at the King Power Stadium, and only one point behind Chelsea who are third with 63 points.

Man United will slug it out with Chelsea in their next match which will be an FA Cup Semi-Final encounter on Sunday.

Speaking to Match of the day, Crystal Palace Manager Roy Hodgson said: "We've had bad luck with defenders, it's testing are reserves in that respect. Patrick [van Aanholt] has hardly missed a game and I don't know how long it takes to mend a dislocated shoulder but I can only hope he comes back again next season.

"We done so well, I thought we put in just as much effort as they did and we still came away with nothing and on the end of another defeat, which is hard to take."

On VAR decisions: "What’s the point in getting into it? If I said it was, they say it wasn't, it becomes like a Christmas pantomime.

Crystal Palace defender Patrick Van Aanholt obviously not happy with the VAR decision against his side, said: "... decisions against us but that's football"

"I thought it was a good goal. That’s what VAR gives us at the moment. If that had been scored against us I wouldn’t be expecting it to ruled out but that’s what we have to take now."
