Shakhtar Donetsk coach Luis Castro concedes Inter ‘ran riot’ after the second goal in a 5-0 Europa League semi-final. ‘Inter proved their superiority.’
The Ukrainians were unbeaten in 11 competitive games and had beaten FC Basel 4-1 in the quarter-final, but were humiliated 5-0 in Düsseldorf, Germany .
“Psychologically, it’s a difficult day for us to deal with,” confessed the coach in his press conference.
“Inter won, we were unable to play at our usual level. We had a chance in the first half with Marcos Antonio, then another we didn’t make the most of after the break.
“The Nerazzurri converted one of only two chances, but after their second goal, we were unable to react, so Inter ran riot. Our Europa League campaign has been very good, but this defeat will stay with us. All we can do is congratulate Inter and look to the future.”
The first two goals were both headers, but then Antonio Conte’s men struck repeatedly on the counter-attack with a high press.
