CSL: Ighalo lasted only 12 mins as Shanghai Shenhua play 1 - 1 with Tianjin Teda
Odion Ighalo |
Striker Odion Ighalo featured for just 12 minutes for Shanghai Shenhua against Tianjin Teda in a Chinese Super League game which ended 1 - 1 at the Tianjin Olympic Center Stadium today.
Ighalo who has already scored seven goals for his club this season was hoping to increase his tally before he went down in the 11th minute with his team trailing 1-0 courtesy of a header from Brazilian striker, Johnathan.
Play had to be interrupted for a few moments to allow the medical crew attend to the Super Eagles’ striker but he had to be replaced by Wu Yizhen in the 12th minute when it became obvious that he could no longer continue with the game.
The nature or severity of the injury was not disclosed immediately but the news has already sent panic into the camp of the Super Eagles coming just barely 41 days to the start of the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
Ighalo, a former Watford forward, is expected to undergo medical tests in the coming days to determine how long he will be out of action.
The 29-year-old emerged the highest goal scorer in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with seven goals.
