Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has reiterated that Kalidou Koulibaly's asking price remains at £81m.
With Napoli having missed out on Champions League football and already
completed the big-money addition of Victor Osimhen, there is the suggestion that they are open to parting ways with Koulibaly.
However, De Laurentiis has hinted that the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City will not be able to sign the Senegal international for a cut-price fee.
Speaking to Sky Italia, De Laurentiis said: "Kalidou is a wonderful person and of course it'd be sad to lose him. Everything has a time and a place, even when it comes to going our separate ways.
"Having said that, we don't have €90m (£81m) on the table and in any case, it takes two to separate."
The 29-year-old still has three years remaining on his contract.
Liverpool German Head Coach Jurgen Klopp said he wants Koulibaly to feature alongside Dutch pro defender Virgil Van Dijk at Anfield.
The Senegalese defender believes in Coach Gennaro Gattuso and has said that the Italian Manager has boosted the team's confidence before the team went ahead to beat Champions Juventus in the final of the Coppa Italia 2019-20 on penalties.
Both teams had clashed in the Coppa Italia final in 2012 and Napoli won by two goals to nothing with Uruguayan pro striker Edinson Cavani netting the first for the Partenopei.
