Former Chelsea, Boro, and Trabzonspor midfielder John Mikel Obi is set to sign for English Championship side Stoke City.

The former Chelsea is expected to have Medicals in the coming days and then, the deal will be signed this summer according to Bleacher.

Mikel became a free agent after leaving Turkish side Trabzonspor on mutual consent back in April.

Swansea City reportedly showed interest in the former Chelsea midfielder, but Stoke City has now moved ahead in the negotiations and are now in pole position to sign the player.

The 33-year-old also attracted interest from Italian side Benevento and Brazilian giants Botafogo, but he turned down the offers because he wants to stay close to his family in England.

Should the transfer to Stoke City go through, Mikel will join his compatriot, Oghenekharo Etebo at the Bet 360 stadium.Brila
