2022 Afcon Qualifier: Nigeria 4-4 Sierra Leone - Super Eagles 'deeply disappointed' after home draw

Video ⬇ Nigeria lost a golden opportunity to go nine points atop the Group L as Sierra Leone came from four goals down to draw 4-4 in their 2022 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Friday evening at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, Edo State, Nigeria.

The Super Eagles were four goals in front of the Leone Stars within a period of thirty minute, however, were unable to defend strongly as Sierra Leone came back to squeeze out a point, netting four times past German-born goalie Maduka Okoye.

The Netherlands-based shot stopper had earlier said he was "ready" for the Leone Stars, little did he know he would concede four times

Everton forward Alex Iwobi put the Super Eagles ahead in the 4th minute and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen made it two for the hosts in the 21st minute.

Nigeria moved three goals in front when Alex Iwobi completed his brace six minutes after Osimhen's goal and in the 29th minute Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze scored Nigeria's fourth goal.

It appeared as if Gernot Rohr's men would score more goals after hitting the back of the Leone Stars' net four times within thirty minutes but there was a shocker in the 41st minute when the visitors pulled one through Kwame Quee to make it four goals to one at halftime.

There was still so much confidence within the Super Eagles which wasn't enough to slow down the Leone Stars as they worked harder and netted their second in the 72nd minute through Al-Hadji Kamara.

Mustapha Bundu made it three for the visitors in the 80th minute as they pressed harder and eventually levelled in the 86th minute through Al-Hadji Kamara who completed his brace.

Alex Iwobi who scored twice for the Super Eagles against the Leone Stars took to twitter to express himself after the draw at the Ogbe Stadium, Benin City.

The 24-year old wrote: "deeply disappointed..."

Gernot Rohr's side will head on to the Capital of Sierra Leone, Freetown for the second leg of the encounter on Tuesday 17 November at the National Stadium, Sierra Leone.

Nigeria remain Group L toppers with seven points from three games while Sierra Leone are third with two points after three games.
