Within thirty minutes of play, the Super Eagles were four goals ahead but the Leone Stars fought back to score four times and ended up sharing points with the hosts as the clash finished 4-4.

Everton forward Alex Iwobi opened scoring (4th minute) for Nigeria, Victor Osimhen made it two (21st minute), Iwobi extended the lead for Gernot Rohr's side to three (27th minute) and Samuel Chukwueze made it four (29th minute).

The Leone Stars shocked their hosts with their first goal (41st minute) through Kwame Quee and then went further to net three more times through Al-Hadji Kamara (72nd minute), Mustapha Bundu (80th minute) and Al-Hadji Kamara again (86th minute).

Adepoju said the Super Eagles relaxed too early and should have waited "until the final whistle is blown" before celebrating.

The former Nigeria midfield maestro also did not hesitate to beg Nigerians to "keep supporting" the Gernot Rohr-led Super Eagles with the belief that "they will bounce back" when they lock horns with Sierra Leone in Freetown come Tuesday 17 November.

“Every game comes with its lessons and this game against Sierra Leone is one of them. A match is not won until the final whistle is blown. Fellow Nigerians, I appeal to you that we keep supporting our dear Super Eagles and I strongly believe they will bounce back in the return leg”.
