Contract Extension: Barcelona to keep Ansu Fati despite injury

Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona are reported to be in talks with winger Ansu Fati over an agreement for a new and enhanced contract as the Guinea-Bissau-born playmaker leaves hospital following a surgery on his knee.

Fati sustained the knee injury during Barcelona's Spanish top flight encounter against Real Betis, a game the Catalans won 5-2.

After going under the knife to fix a tear in his meniscus, the Spain player is expected to be out of action for the next four months.

The 18-year old playmaker has helped new Coach Ronald Koeman's side this season by netting five times and assisting four times.

Notwithstanding Fati's injury status, Marca believes Barcelona have no intention to stop negotiations with the star's representatives over a new deal.

Barcelona see Fati as a very important player for the club in the future as talks to keep the winger whose contract will expire in 2022 has started few weeks ago.

Back in September, the Spanish top flight outfit confirmed that Fati's release clause has been increased to a whooping €400m.
