South Africa National Football team and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Motjeka Madisha has died early on Sunday after crawling out of a burning car wreckage after an accident.

A club official who requested anonymity told AFP, the 25-year-old star was one of two occupants of a car that went out of control, hit an advertising board and burst into flames in eastern Johannesburg.

"I spoke to someone who arrived at the crash scene soon after the accident and he described a horrific scene with one body burnt beyond recognition," he said.

"Motjeka apparently managed to crawl out of the burning vehicle, but was declared dead by medical personnel at the scene of the accident."

The defender is the second Mamelodi Sundowns player to die in a car accident in a space of two months after Anele Ngcongca, near the eastern city of Durban.

Ngcongca fielded for Belgian First Division A club Genk before his transfer to French club Troyes on loan and then made a return to South Africa four years ago.

Madisha, South Africa defender, was capped 13 times by his country and was close to becoming an established first choice centre-back for Premier Soccer League (PSL) club Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sundowns, in the past five years, has been among the strongest football club on the African continent clinching the CAF Champions League in 2016, runners-up in 2001, winning 10 Premier Soccer League titles among several other National and Continental honours.
