Defender Joel Matip has returned to training for the Reds handing Liverpool an injury boost ahead of their Premier League encounter against current toppers Manchester United on Sunday 17 at Anfield.

Matip has been missing in action for reigning English Kings Liverpool in their last three matches against Newcastle, Southampton in the top flight and their FA Cup triumph over Aston Villa.

Top center-backs Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez are still out with long-term knee injuries.

With Matip's comeback, Jurgen Klopp's side have been handed a boost as they lock horns with Manchester United who are set to go six points clear atop the League table if they emerge victorious at Anfield come Sunday 17.

However, if the Reds clinch victory against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men, then, both teams will have equal points, 36 each.
