His one-season loan will end very soon, however, the England international has been given a new life by his time in the Italian top flight with AS Roma and really wants to stay.

Italian outfit AS Roma continues to negotiate with English side Manchester United over signing Chris Smalling permanently, on loan with obligation to buy for €17-18m.

Tele Radio Stereo reports say, the Giallorossi are edging closer to an agreement with his parent club.

Roma wants to sign Smalling on another loan deal with obligation to buy at the end of the 2020-21 season.

Originally, Manchester United had asked for €25m, however, seem to have been negotiated down to €17-18m, with payment spread out over two years.
