Stadio Olympico prepares for social distancing

It's reported the Stadio Olympico in Rome could reopen to fans from January 2021 as a 30-seater arena, ensuring social distancing.

If and when the Serie A season does
resume, which is provisionally from June 13, it will be behind closed doors just as La Liga, Bundesliga, Premier League and others.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport and the Corriere della Sera, plans are already being developed to welcome supporters back slowly from next year, or potentially even sooner.

This would be possible in huge arenas like the Stadio Olympico, which holds up to 70,000 people when completely full, but will be transformed into a 30,000-seater venue.

This would allow for social distancing, spreading people out in the stands, but the concern is that fans would not stick to their allotted seats and could try to congregate together.

Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte confirmed that lockdown measures are bring eased everywhere.

"From May 18, shops, salons, hairdressers, bars, restaurants, pubs, museums and football training will resume, but all by respecting the rules and with the Regional Authorities checking that the norms are adhered to. From May 25, we will reopen gyms, swimming pools and sports centres.

"From June 15, we can reopen theatres and cinemas."
