Barcelona have, according to RAC1, confirmed they received a message from Lionel Messi, where the Argentine asked to be able to terminate his contract through a unilateral clause.

La Pulce had a clause in his deal with the Blaugrana allowing him to terminate their agreement at no cost after every season, but the report claims the clause expired on June 10.

RAC1 says the Argentine’s request has been placed in the hands of Barcelona's lawyers, but that Messi has made his mind up. His future is elsewhere.

The Argentine forward has been excluded from the Spanish club's transfer list as Barca is currently undergoing a thorough first-team overhaul as a lot of players will be offloaded before the next season kicks off.

The overhaul at Camp Nou was triggered after the Catalans who lost the La Liga title to Real Madrid were battered by Bayern Munich 8-2 in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final encounter.

Manchester City and Inter Milan have shown interest in the player. The English side are looking to sign the Argentine should he eventually leave Camp Nou this summer.
